Here are some ideas for investigations or research projects that A level Psychology students could conduct for their psychology coursework:

  1. An investigation involving digit ratio (measure of prenatal testosterone exposure - as suggested in sept 2007 Psychology Review).
  2. Loftus and Palmer replication - make own video clip (of something other than a car crash) and use your own keyphrase
  3. Levinger and Clarke - memory for free-associations to to negatively charged v neutral words
  4. One of the PsychLab studies
  5. Compare positive v negative or positive v neutral statements and number of penalties scored.
  6. Replicate Bower et al (1969) on organisation in memory
  7. Carry out a study on biases in police lineups (See Gary Wells website)
  8. An experiment into the effects of pre-event information on perception (perceptual set)
  9. A version of the stroop effect
  10. A comparison of nmemonic techniques
  11. A dichotic listening task similar to those of Cherry or Treisman - there is a very good open source audio editor called "audacity" that can be used to make suitable stereo recordings (free to download)
  12. A study on facial attractiveness see faceresearch.org (I have confirmed with the programmer who runs the site that it is okay to use your own generated images for educational use)
